Face Coverings in Poff Building

Tuesday, June 23, 2020

Pursuant to Standing Order 2020-14, Phase I of the Western District of Virginia Re-Opening Plan will begin on June 29, 2020.  The Standing Order requires face coverings or masks that cover the wearer’s nose and mouth to be worn in the courtrooms, and other areas, of the Poff Federal Building.  Additionally, the Standing Order states that “[c]ounsel, parties, participants, and courtroom staff shall wear face masks or face coverings during in-person court proceedings unless otherwise directed by the court.”  Please be advised that, absent specific permission from the presiding judge otherwise, Judges Urbanski, Dillon, and Ballou require all persons in the courtroom for an in-person court proceeding to wear a face covering or mask for the entire proceeding – including the presentation of testimony and arguments.
