Attorney Admissions

Attorneys seeking to practice before the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Virginia must be an active or emeritus member of the Virginia State Bar in good standing and must meet all the requirements of Local Rule 6.  Application for admission to practice is submitted via the applicant's updated individual PACER.gov account by selecting Attorney Admissions and E-File Registration.  The request for admission must include an uploaded certificate of at least 2 members of this court, that they are aquainted with the applicant and that the applicant is of good character and ethical conduct.  (See Certificate of Sponsors form)  The Clerk's Office will contact the attorney to provide information regarding the admission process.  The admission fee is to be paid at the time of the swearing in.

Attorneys admitted via oath will receive a certificate of admission.

Pursuant to Local Rule 6(c), any attorney admitted to practice in the United States District Court  for the Eastern District of Virginia is permitted to practice in this Court upon the filing of a certificate of good standing from the Clerk of the Eastern District of Virginia. Applicants must upload the certificate of good standing during the Attorney Admissions and E-File Registration.  The admission fee is waived when applying for admission via a certificate of good standing from the Clerk of the Eastern District of Virginia.

Attorneys admitted via certificate of good standing from the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia will not routinely receive a certificate of admission. If you wish to order one, please click here for instructions.
