NextGen Information

The United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia went live on the Next Generation of CM/ECF (NextGen CM/ECF) on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.  This change affects ALL registered CM/ECF users.

NextGen CM/ECF includes "Central Sign-On", which allows registered users to access all NextGen courts to which they already have access (Appellate, Bankruptcy, and District Courts) using only one PACER login and password.

ALL registered CM/ECF users must have their own individual upgraded PACER account.  PACER account credentials are used for logging in to the NextGen CM/ECF system.  Shared PACER accounts cannot be used after October 13, 2020.

• Help with Upgrading your PACER account.  Any questions regarding individual PACER accounts or upgrading should be directed to pacer@psc.uscourts.gov or 800-676-6856.
   
• New users can register for e-filing by following these step-by-step instructions. 
   
• If you know your VAWD ECF login and password, you can link your VAWD ECF account to your upgraded PACER account.  As soon as you complete this process, you are able to e-file.
   
• If you do not know your VAWD ECF login and password, you can submit an e-file only registration.  Once the court processes the request, your VAWD ECF and PACER accounts will be linked and you will be able to e-file.

  • A single NextGen account will allow you to toggle between exempt (CJA) and non-exempt (Non-CJA).
